Note: I’m such a big fan of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (I watched the complete series twice!). For a fashion history enthusiast, this series is a real marvel. Midge serves the best looks but its actually how the looks become the signature of a moment that makes me more impressed about the costume design.
The mastery of the looks is exceptional. Each character has a very unique style which is a mirror of not only the era (mainly 50s) but also their personality. The clothes are part of the storytelling in a way I haven’t experienced before. The moment this book was published by the Emmy winner costume designer of the series, Donna Zakowska, I ordered it. Costume design is very much underrated in a world that highlights creative directors more than anyone else. This book is the proof that the profession is here to stay, and it requires attention, care, research and an immense passion.
Explosion of color and joy guaranteed.
